About the job

Based at the Emirates palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi within the Marina department, the Dock Hand is responsible for providing a high standard of customer service to marina users, as well as ensuring the marina environment is kept safe, clean and tidy, paying particular attention to the safety of the Marina. The Dock Hand reports to the Berthing Master/ Marina Operations Assistant Manager.

As a Dock Hand, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Ensure the marina is clean and tidy.
  • Walk marina arms to check all customers’ boats are safe and secure.
  • Ensure the marina does not host any unwanted hazards that could cause harm to people and to property.
  • Assist customers into and out of berths etc.
  • Provide an efficient service to members and guests.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with the marina’s policy.
  • Ensure customers receive a clean and efficient rubbish and recycling service.
  • Assist in the berth allocations for casual and permanent customers.
  • Assist the Berth Master or Dock Master in towing boats to and from the marina. This must be done in a professional manner to ensure damage to vessels does not occur.
  • Provide rescue, salvage and fire-fighting service in conjunction with all waterfront staff.
  • Provide customers with a complimentary trolley service, and ensure all trolleys are clean and in good working order.
  • Conduct regular checks of safety equipment around the marina to ensure the equipment will work satisfactorily in an emergency.
  • Supervise fuel bowser operations.
  • Support the administration team in the processing of fuel bills.

As a Dock Hand, we expect from you:

  • Previous experience in the same role in luxury property, marina
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, problem solving, customer service and professional attitude
  • Basic knowledge of dock operations and marine safety practices.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and basic dock equipment.
