Head of Secondary

Salary: AED 22,000 – AED 28,000 (all in monthly salary including housing allowance)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the secondary phase of a British curriculum international school, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and student outcomes.
• Lead, mentor and appraise secondary teaching and pastoral staff; promote professional development and career progression.
• Oversee curriculum planning, assessment strategies and examination preparation to ensure curricular coherence and rigour across year groups.
• Develop and monitor whole-school policies relevant to the secondary phase, including behaviour, safeguarding and inclusion.
• Analyse performance data to identify strengths and areas for improvement, implementing timely interventions to raise achievement.
• Manage timetabling, staffing allocation and resource deployment to optimise learning opportunities and staff workload.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues; act as a visible and approachable leader within the school community.
• Ensure effective pastoral care and safeguarding practices are maintained, supporting student welfare and personal development.
• Lead quality assurance activities, including lesson observations, learning walks and external inspection preparations.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to contribute to school-wide strategy, budgeting and improvement planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related discipline; a relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Master’s, PGCE, NPQH) is desirable.
• Proven senior leadership experience in a secondary setting, with demonstrable impact on pupil outcomes and staff performance.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment best practice and contemporary pedagogy.
• Experience of leading and developing teaching teams, including performance management and professional development.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
• Sound organisational and decision-making abilities, including experience of managing budgets and resources.
• Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting positive student wellbeing.
• Evidence of continued professional learning and a reflective approach to leadership and school improvement.
