About the Role:

The incumbent, as a Laboratory Officer, plays a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of product quality at GMG’s Farm Fresh division. By executing precise tests and maintaining strict adherence to established quality protocols, the Laboratory Officer contributes to product safety and compliance, ensuring that Farm Fresh products meet GMG’s standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety guidelines, and accurately documenting test results. The Laboratory Officer also works closely with other teams to provide data for decision-making and helps maintain a clean and efficient laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and calibrate laboratory equipment, consistently document test results, and report variances or anomalies to the Quality team.

  • Coordinate with the production team for regular sample collection, conduct microbiological and chemical analyses, and ensure environmental and sanitation standards in the lab are maintained.

  • Maintain records for traceability, contribute to the training of lab staff, and participate in safety and quality audits.

  • Ensure that laboratory instruments and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly. Report any malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel for repair.

  • Accurately record all test results, observations, and relevant data in lab logs or digital systems. Prepare reports that summarize findings and results for management or other departments.

  • Develop efficient workflows for sample processing and assist with updating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes.

  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment by adhering to health and safety regulations, performing routine checks, and ensuring that hazardous materials are handled and disposed of properly.

  • Support the Quality team by implementing corrective actions and conducting root cause analysis when deviations occur.

  • Ensure compliance, the incumbent coordinates with external agencies, ensuring that Farm Fresh products meet all local and international food safety guidelines.

  • Work closely with other departments, including production and research teams, to provide accurate data and support in making informed decisions.

Required skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science or a related field.

  • Minimum 3-4 years of laboratory experience, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.

  • Experience in food safety testing, quality control, and quality assurance.

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methods, sample management, and documentation.

  • Experience operating laboratory equipment and performing basic troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
