Description

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), the first accredited smart learning university in the region, invites applications for a full-time resident faculty position in Sustainability and Green Economy. The successful candidate will be based in Dubai, UAE and is expected to be physically present on campus to support teaching, research, mentorship, service, and academic engagement activities.
HBMSU is internationally recognized for its commitment to learner-centered smart education, innovation in digital learning, and sustainability-driven academic excellence. The appointed faculty member will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, applied research, and academic leadership in areas related to sustainability transition, climate resilience, circular economy, carbon management, and the green economy.

Main roles & responsibilities

Teaching
• Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as sustainability transition, green economy, circular economy, carbon management, ESG, and climate change using HBMSU’s smart learning platforms.

• Foster analytical, applied, and entrepreneurial skills related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability challenges.

Curriculum Development
• Design and update course materials and e-content that integrate industry best practices, sustainability policy, and emerging technologies including AI-enabled approaches and interdisciplinary learning models.

Research
• Publish in reputable, peer-reviewed indexed journals and contribute to impactful research in sustainability, climate change mitigation, renewable energy, sustainable finance, and related fields.

• Develop research proposals and pursue external and competitive research funding opportunities.

Mentorship
• Supervise and mentor learners in research projects, providing academic guidance and scholarly support.

Professional Development
• Develop and deliver professional short courses and workshops for industry and professional communities in sustainability and green economy domains.

Service
• Contribute to program accreditation, academic committees, institutional initiatives, and community engagement activities.

• Participate actively in on-campus academic and administrative responsibilities.

Required qualification & skills

• PhD in Sustainability, Green Economy, Carbon Management, or a closely related field from an accredited university (preferably ranked within the top 200).
• Demonstrated academic or professional experience in sustainability, climate resilience, green economy, or carbon management.
• Evidence of research productivity in peer-reviewed indexed journals.
• Proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
• Experience supervising learner research projects.
• Ability to integrate industry insights into teaching and curriculum design.
• Experience supporting accreditation processes is an advantage.
• Strong interdisciplinary, leadership, and innovation orientation in sustainability-focused fields.

Rank and Appointment Criteria:

Full Professor
Minimum of 10 years of academic experience, with a strong research profile and demonstrated leadership in sustainability and/or green economy. The academic title must have been awarded by a recognized higher education institution. Evidence of having previously held the rank of Associate Professor prior to appointment as Full Professor is required.

Associate Professor
Minimum of 5 years of academic experience, with an established research profile and demonstrated contributions to academic leadership and service. The academic title must have been awarded by a recognized higher education institution.

Assistant Professor
PhD in Sustainability, Green Economy, or a closely related field, with demonstrated potential for high-quality research and scholarly contribution.
