Job Brief:
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-reliant Marine Automation Engineer to handle troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications of automation systems on marine boilers and associated equipment. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commercial mindset to drive service quality, efficiency, and profitability within the division.
Job Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise
1. Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics
- Diagnose boiler control logic faults, burner lockouts, and system trips using PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces.
- Perform detailed alarm checks and interlock testing for burner management systems (BMS).
- Verify control panel integrity, I/O signal status, and loop functionality.
- Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic software for fault isolation.
2. Control Panel & Instrumentation Maintenance
- Inspect, calibrate, and function-test instruments including pressure switches, flame scanners, level probes, oxygen analyzers, actuators, and transmitters.
- Ensure correct sequencing of start-up/shut-down logic, purge cycles, and flame safety interlocks.
- Verify terminal tightness, cable continuity, and proper earthing/grounding of control panels.
3. Smoke & Flame Detection Systems
- Test UV/IR flame scanners, smoke detectors, and ensure proper interface with safety shut-off valves.
- Ensure compliance with SOLAS and class requirements for combustion safety systems.
4. Burner Modification & Fuel Conversion
- Support burner retrofits, nozzle changes, and fuel conversion projects (oil-to-gas, dual-fuel, etc.).
- Assist in tuning PID loops for air/fuel ratio control to enhance combustion efficiency.
- Verify the correct functioning of servo motors, actuators, VFDs, and dampers during commissioning.
5. Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead and supervise a team of technicians for efficient job execution.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and performance monitoring to the team.
- Plan and allocate manpower for on-board and workshop tasks.
- Arrange and manage spare parts, tools, and consumables for maintenance operations.
6. Business & Sales Responsibilities
- Identify business opportunities in marine automation and build strong client relationships.
- Support the sales team with technical expertise during client discussions and proposals.
- Drive revenue growth by promoting automation services, upgrades, and spare part sales.
- Ensure profitability through effective cost control, resource optimization, and margin monitoring.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Electrical & Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in marine automation, boiler controls, and burner systems.
- Experience with marine boilers is mandatory.
- Strong technical knowledge in automation troubleshooting, PLC systems, and burner operations.
- Hands-on experience in burner calibration, overhauling, and system modifications.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team of technicians.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and client-handling skills.
- Commercial acumen with experience in sales support and profit management.
