Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements, sanctions, and financial crime laws applicable to the bank’s operations in the UAE.
- Oversee the implementation of the group’s compliance policies, ensuring alignment with local and international standards.
- Regularly review and enhance the bank’s governance framework to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with regulatory updates.
- Regulatory Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain strong, transparent, and proactive relationships with regulatory authorities in the UAE, including the Central Bank and other relevant bodies.
- Act as the primary liaison between the bank and regulatory agencies, managing inquiries, inspections, and reporting obligations.
- Ensure timely submission of regulatory reports and manage communication related to compliance matters.
- Risk Management and Framework Development
- Oversee the development and management of the compliance risk management framework.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate compliance-related risks, including regulatory, financial crime, and operational risks.
- Monitor the bank’s exposure to financial crimes (e.g., AML, CTF, sanctions violations) and ensure robust preventive measures are in place.
- Policy and Process Enhancement
- Lead the review and enhancement of internal compliance policies and procedures to ensure they meet both group and local regulatory requirements.
- Implement best practices in compliance and governance, fostering a strong culture of compliance within the organization.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure adherence to compliance standards across all departments.
- Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead the compliance team, providing direction, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Legal, Risk, and Operations) to ensure an integrated approach to compliance and risk management.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the board and senior management on compliance matters, including potential risks and mitigation strategies.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in compliance, with a strong background in retail banking being a must.
- Proven experience in managing regulatory, sanctions, and financial crime compliance within the banking sector.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities.
- Deep understanding of UAE banking regulations and compliance requirements.
- Expertise in anti-money laundering (AML), combating terrorist financing (CTF), and sanctions compliance.
- Strong knowledge of governance frameworks and risk management practices in banking.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
