You will ensure that crude, oil products, natural gas and chemical feedstocks are delivered to Shell Trading & Supply customers around the world. This includes the efficient running of physical assets while ensuring timely delivery of fuel to Shell customers, a structured approach to optimising molecules in the supply chain, applying knowledge of trading tools and technique as well as commercial acumen, and ensuring Continuous Improvement in the management of our processes. At the same time the management of all physical operations is handled with an uncompromising emphasis on HSSE, Compliance and Product Quality.
What’s the role?
Operations are crucial in executing the 'life of the deal,' managing the movement of bulk oils or product tankers from supply to delivery in an operationally excellent and optimal way, preventing profit loss and seeking opportunities for added value.
The role is central to coordinating all operational aspects (including cargo and freight) and scheduling activities for a specific set of accounts, ensuring all obligations from contracts and charter parties are fulfilled.
Key challenges and competencies include:
Protect the P&L and seek opportunities to maximize margins by effectively utilizing assets, preventing unnecessary downtime/demurrage, and enhancing blend margins.
Ensure that all obligations from the products contract and charter party are executed flawlessly, adhering to governmental and industrial regulations, as well as HSSE guidelines.
There is a daily external interface with contractual counterparties, terminal operators, vessel owners/brokers, national oil companies, and competitors.
The daily internal interface includes traders, charterers, shipping, manufacturing (E&S, movements), Product Optimizers, deal makers, claims, contracts, demurrage, and legal teams.
Manage supply and delivery schedules, both internally and externally. It is expected to understand the challenges and constraints of the end-to-end supply chain and operationalize a plan to meet objectives while remaining profitable and compliant.
Responsible for timely and accurate ship, cargo, and date range nominations to maintain supply integrity and the successful execution of commercial business/supply intent.
Ops manage vessel operations, including scheduling, routing, bunkering, stow planning & optimization, issuing voyage orders, and overseeing the fleet of vessels under their charge.
Manage cargo operations, such as cleaning management, addressing off-spec issues, ensuring cargo readiness, scheduling, blending, avoiding tank-top/stock-out situations, and optimizing volume/date-range.
Additionally, support post-deal activities like customs clearance, demurrage, and claims, ensuring that all necessary operational information is communicated promptly, and documentary requirements are fulfilled.
Appoint independent inspectors, expeditors, ship-to-ship service providers, and shipping agents.
Ensure timely and accurate updates of all operational data into trading systems to facilitate current and precise information flow.
Maintain adequate records to fulfill the company's legal and fiscal responsibilities.
Confirm that necessary financial security is established before transferring title to customers.
Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory requirements through proper documentation.
What we need from you
The ideal candidate must have a clear understanding and/or experience in Trading & Supply-related operations. Having at least 1-3 years of experience in a Trading and Supply (or similar) operations environment, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with channel partners, suppliers, third-party service providers, and customers will be beneficial.
Commercial Acumen: Ability to maximize end-to-end margins or enhance the bottom line. Ability to engage proactively with charterers to ensure seamless operations, prevent supply disruptions, and reduce demurrage costs.
Supply Chain Management: Expertise in managing the entire supply chain, including gathering requirements, collaborating with stakeholders, and formulating effective supply plans.
Operational Excellence: Experience in managing vessel and cargo operations, including scheduling, routing, stow planning, and optimization. Ability to manage supply and delivery schedules, ensuring timely and accurate nominations.
Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to collaborate with channel partners, suppliers, third-party service providers, and customers
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to solve problems in uncertain situations or with incomplete information
Attention to Detail: Meticulousness and strong numerical skills.
HSSE and Compliance: Strong commitment to (HSSE), and compliance culture.
Experience in blending or a demonstrable capacity to blend.
Influence and Leadership: Ability to influence without authority and take the initiative in leading teams. Proactive, self-motivated individuals with strong personal leadership.
Continuous Improvement: Passion for operational excellence and a history of leading or advocating for optimization initiatives.
Willingness to address critical issues outside of regular office hours or during weekends.
