Job Description
Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Cost Estimator as part of our Project Control team within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

- Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for all phases of oil and gas projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Maintain and improve cost estimation tools, databases, and benchmarks to reflect current market trends, pricing fluctuations, and project learnings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, planning) to collect the most updated and relevant data for comprehensive estimates.
- Support bid preparation and proposal development by delivering timely and well-documented cost breakdowns for tender submissions.
- Evaluate and analyze project scope changes to assess potential cost impacts and assist in implementing change management procedures.
- Enhance cost control measures by identifying cost-saving opportunities during early-stage project planning.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards, incorporating best practices in estimating methodology and documentation.
- Track estimate performance versus actuals
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Develop Comprehensive Cost Estimates Prepare detailed cost estimates across all project phases—from conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Analyze Project Scope and Documentation Review engineering drawings, project specifications, bill of quantities (BOQs), and scope definitions to ensure accurate cost projections.
- Maintain and Update Cost Databases Keep internal cost estimation tools and databases current with market prices, historical data, and vendor rates for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing; verify commercial and technical compliance of cost inputs.
- Integrate Estimation with Project Planning Work closely with planning teams to align cost estimates with schedule information, identifying risks and cost-time trade-offs.
- Support Change Management Analyze the cost impacts of design modifications and scope changes; contribute to cost variation proposals and change order documentation.
- Risk and Contingency Evaluation Assist in identifying cost-related risks and uncertainties, and help develop contingency strategies and cost buffers accordingly.
- Participate in Tendering and Bid Processes Support bid preparation by compiling pricing information, cost breakdowns, and narrative justifications for client submissions.
- Reporting and Documentation Prepare accurate and transparent estimate reports, cost summaries, and variance analyses for internal reviews and management presentations.
- Benchmarking and Lessons Learned Capture post-project cost performance data to enhance future estimate accuracy and refine cost models.

Expected
- Deliver precise and well-documented estimates that align closely with actual project costs and support project budgeting, bidding, and financial control.
- Maintain consistency in cost estimates across multiple projects by leveraging up-to-date cost databases and benchmarking tools.
- Provide timely responses to estimate requests during all project phases to support key decision-making and client commitments.
- Contribute to project success by identifying cost drivers, flagging potential overruns, and recommending value engineering options.
- Enhance team efficiency through effective collaboration, clear communication, and reliable cost data integration with planning and procurement.
- Advance cost estimating practices by sharing lessons learned and applying continuous improvement to tools, methods, and accuracy tracking.
- 3–5 years of experience in cost estimating within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors. Experience with FEED, EPC, and shutdown/maintenance projects is highly desirable.
- AACE certifications such as Certified Estimating Professional (CEP)
- PMP or other project management credentials are a plus
- Capable of working independently and making decisions.
