Data Engineer

Job Description

United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is one of the leading academic institutions in the UAE and the region, known for its excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. As part of our ongoing commitment to organizational efficiency, we are seeking a Data Engineer to join our team and support data-driven decision-making across the university. The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure to support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting. This role will involve working closely with Process Analysts and other stakeholders to ensure data accessibility, integration, and quality for process optimization and strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to collect, clean, and transform data from multiple sources.
• Develop and manage data warehouses, databases, and cloud-based storage solutions.
• Implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Optimize data architecture for efficient querying, storage, and processing.
• Collaborate with Process Analysts and other teams to support data-driven decision-making and workflow automation.
• Work with business intelligence tools to enable visualization and reporting.
• Ensure data security, governance, and compliance with UAEU policies and industry standards.
• Troubleshoot data issues, optimize performance, and improve data reliability.
• Document data architectures, pipelines, and best practices.
  
  

Minimum Qualification

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of SQL and database management (MySQL, SQL Server, etc.).
• Experience with data pipeline tools (Apache Airflow, Talend, etc.).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop).
• Experience with ETL processes and data warehousing solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  
  

Preferred Qualification

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in data engineering, database management, or cloud data solutions.
• Experience working in large organizations, preferably in the education or research sector.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
• Experience integrating data solutions with ERP systems, CRM platforms, or AI/ML models.
