Job Title: Data Migration SME Consultant

Primary Skills

  • Expertise in designing and executing large-scale data migration projects across heterogeneous environments (on-premises to cloud or cloud-to-cloud).
  • Proficiency in ETL tools like Informatica, Talend, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong knowledge of database systems (SQL, NoSQL) and migration strategies.
  • Advanced skills in scripting and programming languages such as Python, SQL, or PowerShell.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and their migration tools (e.g., AWS DMS, Azure Data Migration Services).

Secondary Skills

  • Familiarity with data modeling, data warehousing, and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or Databricks.
  • Experience with middleware and APIs for data integration.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including bandwidth optimization for migration.
  • Proficiency in using tools for data validation and reconciliation.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Analyse current data systems, design migration approaches, and create detailed project plans.
  • Determine the optimal tools, technologies, and processes for seamless migration.
  • Assess data quality, structure, and integrity in source systems.
  • Perform data cleansing, transformation, and enrichment as needed.
  • Lead the end-to-end migration process, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Configure and optimize migration tools for performance and reliability.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including database administrators, developers, and business analysts.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and management.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of migrated data through thorough validation processes.
  • Address discrepancies and troubleshoot migration-related issues.
  • Create comprehensive documentation of migration processes, including technical guides and lessons learned.
  • Train internal teams on managing and maintaining the new data infrastructure.
  • Stay updated with advancements in data migration tools and best practices.
  • Propose and implement improvements to enhance data migration efficiency and quality.
