Job Role

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of databases. This role involves managing both Oracle and SQL Server databases, administering the Ellucian Banner ERP system, and ensuring the availability and reliability of data across the organization.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Install, configure, and manage Oracle and SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
  • Ellucian Banner ERP Administration: Maintain and administer the Ellucian Banner ERP system, ensuring integration and smooth operation within the institutional IT environment.
  • Backup & Recovery: Implement backup/recovery strategies for databases, including data replication and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Database Optimization: Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient resource utilization.
  • Upgrades and Patches: Apply database patches and upgrades to ensure systems remain secure and up-to-date.
  • Security Management: Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive data, manage access, and enforce database security policies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient database solutions aligned with business needs.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Oracle (versions 11g, 12c, 19c) and SQL Server (2012, 2016, 2019) database management.
  • Expertise in Ellucian Banner ERP administration, including upgrades, patching, and user management.
  • Strong experience in PL/SQL, T-SQL, and database scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with database performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with backup/recovery tools such as RMAN for Oracle and native SQL Server tools.
  • Strong knowledge of data security, encryption, and access control.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience as a DBA with a focus on Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner ERP in a higher education or similar environment.
