Job Description

The Demi Chef de Partie in the Pastry Kitchen supports the Chef de Partie and the kitchen team in preparing and delivering high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods. This role involves assisting in daily food preparation, ensuring consistency in dishes, and maintaining the highest standards of kitchen hygiene. The ideal candidate will have a passion for pastry and experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked items.
  • Help manage a specific section of the pastry kitchen, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of all items.
  • Follow recipes and kitchen standards to ensure consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation.
  • Monitor stock levels for your section, ensuring ingredients are fresh and available, and assist with inventory checks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chef de Partie and other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service during busy periods.
  • Assist in proper storage of food supplies, ensuring correct labeling and rotation (FIFO system).
  • Support the training of junior kitchen staff and kitchen porters as needed.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen, ensuring a safe and hazard-free working environment.

Qualifications

  • Formal culinary or pastry qualification from a recognized institution is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a professional pastry or bakery environment.
  • Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, dessert preparation, and baking processes.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain consistency in quality and presentation.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (including HACCP).
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Creative flair and a passion for delivering high-quality pastries and desserts.
