Department Manager – Piping Engineering

Position Description

KBR’s global business comprises two main segments – Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) and Mission Technology Solutions (MTS). This role sits within STS in the Integrated Solutions (IS) business unit. Integrated Solutions is an engineering and project delivery group providing services which include front-end and detailed engineering, procurement, construction services, and program management primarily in the hydrocarbons and energy transition industries.

KBR typically executes highly technical traditional energy projects and are now developing into renewable energy projects. The candidate should be willing to learn new skills and develop in a large range of areas including Onshore, Offshore, LNG, Floating, Refining and Petrochemical. KBR is also committed to the continued expansion in renewable energy sectors including wind, biofuel, carbon capture and hydrogen.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Piping Engineer to take the role of Piping Department Manager. You should be forward-thinking and have passion for continuous improvement. The candidate must be open to new methods of working and encourage innovation without compromise on quality. You will be responsible for managing the piping engineering and design team, recruitment and ensuring projects are supported with resources. The applicant must have and maintain an understanding of the latest technologies and market developments to ensure best practices are implemented through projects. The Piping Department Manager is required to work on projects as well as support corporate functions inc. input to proposals, early career development etc.

The position is based in KBR’s Abu Dhabi office, the role may require some short-term travel on business trips.

Key Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of engineering activities undertaken in piping engineering on proposals, projects and developments.
  • Coordinates with other Discipline Department Managers to integrate technology activities with those of other technologies to meet company goals.
  • Monitors and adjusts levels of personnel, levels of skills, and development of skills in technology.
  • Implements technology development and training plans for continuous improvement of project execution consistent with company goals.
  • Implements project quality control procedures in his/her technology area.

Relationships

  • Engineering Director
  • Reports to the Director of Engineering
  • Coordinates directly Project Engineering Managers on staffing requirements and conduct technical audits.

Responsibilities

Managing a team of piping engineers and designers, you will advise, and contribute to the following:

  • Ensure that adequate personnel are available to support projects and corporate requirements. This requires forward planning for staff personnel.
  • Assist staff with setting goals and objectives and help provide opportunities for them to fulfil their career development. Support staff through mentoring and coaching.
  • Responsibility for all aspects of engineering activities undertaken within piping on proposals and projects.
  • Participate in the resolution of requests for correction or preventive action on projects.
  • Lead corporate piping development initiatives and assign resources to produce measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure the continued development and application of KBR technology, execution methods and procedures for projects.
  • Committed to building good relationships with other KBR operating centres to ensure a successful ONE KBR project execution outcome.

Essential

Skills / Experience:

  • Knowledge and proven experience in a Lead Engineer’s role, from pre-FEED to EPC. Significant EPC experience is essential.
  • Background should show a progression in roles from within the piping group into a leadership position.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards and their implications on the design.
  • Good communication skills to encourage and empower others.
  • Able to multi-task in a fast environment and request support when required.
  • Experience in multi-centre project execution.
  • Subject matter expert skills in one of the piping sub-disciplines.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer
  • Construction / Commissioning support experience

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree qualified
