JOB PURPOSE
Provides specialist expertise and internal consultancy for the controls & automation system maintenance support across both sites and extends required technical support to users/maintenance team for automation systems at all stages of the start-up projects and during running of the plant operations. Ensures availability and reliability of all automation equipment & systems in the designated plant area, in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner in line with the Maintenance strategy.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESTeam Guidance-
Ensures the provision of subject matter expertise for the assigned domain and provides counsel on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of maintenance strategy and functional objectives.

Provides guidance and on-the-job training for junior colleagues and conducts knowledge sharing to facilitate achievement of team objectives and completion of tasks in an efficient manner, consistent with operating procedures and policy.

Promotes the organization’s values and ethics in all activities within the team to support the establishment of a value-driven culture within the organization.

Monitors the financial performance of the assigned activities versus budgets and ensures all activities are carried out in line with the approved guidelines while promptly reporting any variances to management.

Provides inputs and implements policies, systems, and procedures for the assigned area to ensure all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.

Maintains details (name, make, model, IP/node address, etc.) of Control & Automation Hardware installed in the area.

Maintains details of licenses for Control & Automation Hardware/Software.

Maintains details of Hardware/Software/Licenses of Robots in the area.
-
Ensures all engineering workstations are loaded with the latest software revisions and patches.

Assesses risks of Control & Automation System failures in the area and develops risk management plans.
-
Effectively manages Control & Automation spares and part management contracts.
-
Assesses obsolescence of spares in the warehouse and takes appropriate action.

Decides on control & automation spare stocking based on risk, lead time, consumption, component life, etc.

Ensures backup copies of updated PLC & Network programs are maintained for system recovery when required.

Coordinates with IT to manage Asset Center Software.

Coordinates with IT to backup industrial computers running Control & Automation Software.
-
Assists EMD and IMD teams in Level 1 & above control system diagnosis and rectification.

Ensures control & automation systems are reliable and operate as per design requirements at all times.

Evaluates, facilitates, monitors, and controls remote access of contractors to EGA equipment.

Provides remote assistance for troubleshooting control & automation related issues.

Facilitates Robots Control System maintenance.

Supports other Area Automation Engineers as needed while providing subject matter expertise.

Develops training programs/material for the Smelter Maintenance E & I Team on Control & Automation systems.

Communicates implemented Control & Automation system changes to the maintenance/operation team.

Identifies and plans control & automation system obsolescence replacements/upgrades at optimum cost and timeframe without affecting production.

Supports Area Maintenance, Engineering, and IT Project Teams for major control & automation system upgrades and additions.

Explores upcoming control & automation technologies and evaluates their application in the assigned area.

Complies with all area safety requirements and is aware of safety risks within Smelter Maintenance.

Attends toolbox meetings and participates in Control & Automation related incident investigations and quality audits.

Ensures all Control & Automation systems are safe and compliant with environmental regulations.

Programs equipment for safe operations when process changes occur, adhering to EGA’s change management system.

Provides subject matter expertise and supports identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes, and practices in line with global standards, productivity, and cost optimization.

Prepares timely and accurate sectional statements and reports to meet EGA and departmental policies and quality standards.

As per the delegation of authority and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of Engineering (Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation).
-
Specialization (Masters/Diploma) in Control & Automation and/or Instrumentation.
-
8 years of Control & Automation experience in Smelter/Heavy Industry or C&A Projects, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

Excellent knowledge of Control/Automation Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Real-Time Systems (SCADA).
-
In-depth experience with Rockwell-based Automated Control Systems & Products: PLCs, OSI Pi (Real Time Databases), FT View SE, Panel View, Control Logix, and RS Networks.

Proficient in troubleshooting complex automation/controls issues.

Good working knowledge of CMMS/SAP.

Familiarity with Permit to Work (PTW) and LOTOV systems for safe independent work.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
