We are a startup media production company specializing in high-quality TV commercials (TVCs) and creative media content. Our productions emphasize creative storytelling and technical excellence. We are looking for a skilled Gaffer to join our team on a freelance basis to manage and execute professional lighting setups for our shoots.
The Gaffer will be responsible for planning and executing lighting designs that align with the creative vision of the production. This role involves collaborating closely with the on-site team and remote Creative Director to achieve the desired look and feel for each project. The ideal candidate is experienced in operating a range of lighting equipment, understands cinematic lighting techniques, and can work efficiently under tight production schedules.
Lighting Planning:
- Review the storyboard and shot list provided by the Creative Director to understand the lighting requirements.
- Advise on additional lighting needs or modifications based on the provided location or equipment.
Lighting Setup and Management:
- Set up, adjust, and manage all lighting equipment on set, including Aputure 600D Pro and Nanlite Pavotubes.
- Ensure proper placement and intensity of lights to achieve the desired mood and tone.
- Utilize diffusers, filters, and modifiers to control light quality and direction.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Camera Operator to align lighting setups with camera framing and movement.
- Coordinate with the Spark and other crew members to ensure efficient lighting adjustments during the shoot.
Troubleshooting:
- Address and resolve any technical issues with lighting equipment on set to prevent delays.
- Adapt lighting setups to changing conditions or creative feedback during production.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Gaffer or Lighting Technician in media production or advertising projects.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in handling professional lighting equipment such as Aputure 600D Pro and Nanlite Pavotubes, along with diffusers and filters.
- Cinematic Knowledge: Strong understanding of cinematic lighting techniques, including key, fill, and backlighting.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve lighting issues quickly on set.
- Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work effectively with the crew and align with the Creative Director's vision.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and manage heavy equipment and work in dynamic on-set environments.
- Familiarity with RED Komodo X camera lighting requirements.
- Experience in TVC or short film production.
- Knowledge of power distribution and safety protocols for lighting setups.
