Job Description

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Graphic Designer to join our team!

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing Visual Assets: Creating visual elements for highway-related projects, including signs, lane markings, and road safety features such as traffic cones, barriers, and roadwork warnings.
  • Signage Design: Developing designs for traffic signs, street name signs, directional signs, and other informational signs required along highways. Ensuring compliance with national or international standards for legibility and clarity.
  • Traffic Management Plans: Designing and producing graphics for traffic management plans (TMPs) that include temporary road closures, detours, and diversions during roadworks.
  • Highway Cross-Section Design: Developing clear and visually accurate representations of highway cross-sections, including lanes, sidewalks, and safety barriers.
  • Public Information Campaigns: Designing materials for public information campaigns related to highway projects, such as flyers, posters, and digital assets to inform the public of upcoming construction or changes in road conditions.
  • Mapping and GIS Integration: Working with Geographic Information System (GIS) data to create maps and layouts for road networks, including highlighting key intersections, proposed new roads, and areas of concern.
  • Branding and Identity for Road Projects: Creating the visual branding for highway projects, including logos, banners, and any branding materials that will be used in the public realm.
  • Designing 3D Visualizations: Using software to create 3D renderings of highway infrastructure, including roadways, intersections, and bridges, to assist in public consultations and planning discussions.
  • Working with Engineers and Planners: Collaborating with highway engineers and urban planners to ensure that designs are accurate, reflect functional requirements, and are aligned with project specifications.
  • Preparing Presentations: Designing and preparing presentation slides, reports, and visual documents for project meetings, stakeholder briefings, and public consultations.


What Required Skills You'll Bring

  • Graphic design diploma or professional equivalent with minimum of 3-5 years’ experience.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for visualizing highway designs in a graphic format.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software like SketchUp or Revit for creating more advanced representations.
  • Knowledge of highway signage, pavement markings, and traffic management symbols.
  • Ability to design traffic safety graphics, including road safety warnings, lane markings, and wayfinding signs.
  • Understanding of roadway classifications, and how to represent them graphically.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawing standards and layout conventions, particularly in the context of road infrastructure.
  • Ability to produce schematics, layout plans, and cross-sectional views of roads, pedestrian paths, and utilities.
  • Experience working with scaled drawings and converting complex designs into user-friendly graphics.
  • Familiarity with roadway geometrics (such as curvature, slopes, intersections, and signage placement).
  • Ability to create visual representations of complex engineering data for public presentations or internal reports.
  • Collaboration with Engineers and Architects:
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, urban planners, and architects to translate technical road design plans into visually appealing and clear layouts.
  • Understanding of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in the context of infrastructure to produce integrated designs.
  • Experience in branding or working within corporate design guidelines to create a unified visual language for highway projects (e.g., logos, signage systems).
  • Ability to produce presentation boards and visual communications materials for stakeholders, including maps, conceptual designs, and proposal layouts.
  • Strong eye for detail, ensuring that all graphics are clear, legible, and meet safety and design standards.
  • Ensuring design consistency across various visual elements in the project, from diagrams to full-scale renderings.
  • Ability to adapt designs based on changing project requirements, safety standards, or environmental conditions.
  • Capability to solve visual design challenges while maintaining a focus on functionality and safety in road systems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility guidelines and regulations, such as ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), to ensure the visual design supports universal access.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively present design concepts to project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient in creating visual presentations and mockups for design approval.
  • Creativity in presenting complex road data and infrastructure designs in a visually engaging and easy-to-understand manner.
  • Innovative approaches to translating technical road infrastructure into public-facing graphics, digital media, or educational materials.

  • Ability to develop and maintain cohesive brand guidelines.
  • Knowledge of how to adapt designs to fit various brand identities across different platforms.
  • Familiarity with motion design and animation tools such as After Effects.
  • Ability to create dynamic and engaging graphics, including simple animations and GIFs.
  • A basic understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles, even if not primarily focused on UI design, to create visually functional and intuitive designs.
  • A basic understanding in 3D design software like Blender or Cinema 4D for creating mockups, product visualizations, and motion graphics.
  • Familiarity with the technical requirements for print production, such as resolution, color profiles, and file formats.
  • Understanding of printing processes and how to design for different types of media (e.g., brochures, posters, billboards).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements, feedback, and evolving design trends.
  • Familiarity with web design trends and best practices for creating designs optimized for websites, banners, and digital ads.
  • Experience with responsive design for mobile and desktop environments.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Ability to work well within a team, collaborating with copywriters, marketers, developers, and other creatives to bring projects to life.
  • While proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is required, the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and software (e.g., Figma, Sketch, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to identify design challenges and propose innovative, practical solutions to meet client needs.
  • A good understanding of photography principles and the ability to edit photos and videos for use in designs.
  • Familiarity with creating visual content that is optimized for different social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
