Job Summary:
The Head of Government and Public Relations will be responsible for developing and executing the organization's government relations strategy in the United Arab Emirates. This role involves managing relationships with UAE governmental bodies, regulatory authorities, and key stakeholders to advance the organization's interests and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Work closely with the CEO, CCO, CPO, and other Management and Operations departments to establish and maintain relationships with key government officials, and provide legislative and regulatory solutions. Monitor, assess, and summarize legislation that could impact key business lines.
Job Responsibilities:
Policy Advocacy and Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement strategies to influence public policy and regulatory issues affecting the company.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the company’s operations.
- Provide strategic advice to senior management on government relations and public policy issues.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure alignment of government relations activities with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities and risks in the UAE's regulatory landscape and develop strategies to address them.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, legislators, regulatory agencies, and industry associations. (EAD, Ministry of Labour, Immigration Department, Police Department, Civil Defense, Customs Authorities, Zones Corp, Hamriyah Freezone Authority, Chamber of Commerce, ADDC, etc.).
- Represent the company in meetings with government officials, industry groups, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate and attend events, hearings, and public meetings to promote the company’s interests.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure the company complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide training and support to employees on compliance issues.
Communications and Reporting:
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and briefings to senior management and other stakeholders
- Draft policy papers, position statements, and other communication materials to articulate the company’s positions on key issues.
- Manage communication with external stakeholders, including the media, regarding public policy issues.
Coalition Building:
- Participate in industry coalitions and alliances to advance common interests.
- Collaborate with other companies, trade associations, and advocacy groups to build support for policy initiatives.
Lobbying Activities:
- Develop and implement lobbying strategies to advance the company’s legislative and regulatory agenda.
- Manage external lobbyists and consultants engaged by the company.
- Track lobbying activities and ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure requirements.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related field.
- Proven track record of successfully influencing public policy and managing government relations.
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Administration, Law, Communications, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze complex policy issues and develop strategic responses.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the UAE's legislative and regulatory processes.
- Ability Flexibility to travel within the UAE as needed.
- Knowledge of UAE-specific cultural and business practices.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- In-depth knowledge of the industry and the regulatory environment affecting it.
- Familiarity with lobbying laws and ethics.
