The individual in this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and policies that protect employees, the public, and the environment. Working in various industries, HSE Specialists aim to foster a culture of safety by conducting risk assessments, training employees, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations. They are also involved in the investigation of incidents and the development of measures to prevent future occurrences. Successful candidates will have a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of regulatory standards and practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations and laws.
- Provide guidance and support to employees on safety-related issues and best practices.
- Prepare and deliver safety training sessions for employees and management teams.
- Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain comprehensive records of safety operations, audits, and inspections.
- Report safety performance metrics and incidents to management and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement workplace safety improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous safety improvement throughout the organization.
- Evaluate and recommend personal protective equipment (PPE) for use by employees.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar health, safety, and environment role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent is preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and conduct effective safety training programs.
