Job Summary:

We are seeking a versatile and reliable Lab Technician & Facilities Maintenance Specialist to support both scientific operations and general facility upkeep. This hybrid role combines responsibilities in laboratory sample handling, equipment maintenance, and technical support with general handyman tasks such as repairs, basic plumbing, painting, and equipment assembly. Ideal candidates are proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing lab protocols with hands-on physical work with a high standard or spoken and written English.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Duties (approx. 60%):

• Prepare and set up lab equipment, instruments, and materials for experiments or testing
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab space, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols
• Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on lab instruments
• Assist in sample collection, testing, and documentation of results
• Manage material inventory, including safe storage and disposal
• Support research staff with experimental setup and data recording
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  
  

Facilities & Maintenance Duties (approx. 40%):

• Perform general repairs (plumbing, lighting, furniture, shelving, basic electrical work)
• Install or assemble lab fixtures, equipment, and furniture as needed
• Coordinate with Khalifa University Maintenance & Project teams, external contractors for specialized maintenance or repairs
• Conduct regular facility inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
• Support workspace modifications or renovations as the lab grows
• Troubleshoot and resolve minor facility-related issues proactively
  
  

Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Applied Sciences, or related field, or equivalent technical trade certification.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably within the UAE.
• Proven experience with general maintenance or handyman tasks in commercial or lab settings.
• Strong knowledge of (preferably UAE) safety, health, and environmental compliance regulations. Working knowledge of ADDC and other civil regulations & standards
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  
  

Skills & Attributes:

• Strong command of English (spoken and written); Arabic or other languages is a plus.
• Competent is the use of Microsoft application such as outlook, excel, etc
• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Able to multitask and prioritize daily responsibilities.
• Team player with a resilient, optimistic and proactive attitude and customer-service mindset.
• Physically fit and able to lift/move equipment up to 20–25 kg.
