The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting the development and optimization of innovative water treatment solutions. This role requires a strong foundation in environmental science and laboratory techniques, as well as a commitment to enhancing water quality through research. The Laboratory Assistant will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct experiments, analyze water samples, and contribute to the advancement of sustainable water treatment practices.

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting the development and optimization of innovative water treatment solutions. This role requires a strong foundation in environmental science and laboratory techniques, as well as a commitment to enhancing water quality through research. The Laboratory Assistant will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct experiments, analyze water samples, and contribute to the advancement of sustainable water treatment practices.
Responsibilities
Research and Development Support
- Assist in the execution of experimental protocols for testing water treatment technologies, including physical, chemical, and biological methods.
- Support bench-scale and pilot-scale experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment processes, such as filtration, chemical dosing, monitoring, sample collection and cleaning the pilot after studies.
- Assist other laboratory members with their experiments. This includes data collection, sample collection, starting and shutting down the system, sample mixing and preparation.
- Perform routine analytical tests on water samples, including pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids, etc., using relevant techniques.
- Handle membrane related projects, the task includes handling the membranes, loading and unloading of membranes, packaging and keeping the area safe for operation.
- Follow the exact experimental procedures, precisely document the results and observations in laboratory notebooks and electronic databases.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports for internal stakeholders.
- Ensure all duties are performed in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ADOSH SF standards, contributing to continual improvement in quality, environmental, and occupational health & safety performance.
- Ensure that laboratory equipments and pilots are properly maintained, in ready to operate state, carryout routine inspections and safety checks, ensure a safe working environment by identifying and mitigating potential hazards around the pilot area.
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and compliance with governmental and international regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot experimental challenges and optimize research methodologies.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for new research initiatives and process improvements.
- A Diploma in Mechanical or related technical courses or Bachelors’ degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques relevant to water quality analysis, including but not limited to titration, filtration, and microbiological testing.
- Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and carry out experiments methodologically and meticulously.
- Able to handle heavy loads and use pallet jacks to move skids or IBCs around.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with water treatment processes and regulations, such as those set by the local health departments.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the water treatment or environmental research industry.
