Medical Translator-Health Information Management

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for interpreting and translating a variety of medical reports and correspondence from Arabic to English and vice versa, by utilizing accurate spelling, correct punctuation and grammar skills and ensuring that they are well checked for medical terminology. Role holder is responsible for assisting Release of information functions such as preparing the release of information application forms, preparing duplicate medical records / medical reports in response to patient requests and obtaining the necessary consent from the patient in accordance with rules and regulations of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Translates a variety of medical reports and correspondence from Arabic to English and vice versa, by utilizing accurate spelling, correct punctuation and grammar skills
• Applies knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and English
• Clarifies documents that are unclear or incomplete, seeking assistance from physicians, nursing units, offices and /or ancillary departments as necessary
• Uses reference materials and other resources appropriately and efficiently to facilitate the accuracy, clarity and completeness of reports, i.e., new terminology, procedures, surgical instruments and medications
• Provides the documentation of patient care and facilitates delivery of healthcare services
• Contacts patients or their relatives in order to provide, and obtained clarifying information pertaining to the requested translation of medical reports
• Receives, registering and processes requests of medical reports pertaining to police cases
• Understands and complies with regulations related to medico legal matters, including confidentiality of medical records, amendments of medical records, release of information, patients' rights and hospital and employee liability
• Applies established guidelines and policies governing the release of patient information
• Provides bilingual written translation for medical reports issued to government entities such as courts, police station, medico- legal, traffic departments
• Prepares and translating official letters/ notices/ circular, correspondence, tenders, contracts etc. for hospital administration and other hospital departments in both Arabic and English languages
• Translates health instructions booklets issued by facility department/section for patient education (if required)
• Translates publication, press release material, profile, media material, and marketing materials by public relation section (if required)
• Provides Interpretation & Translation services for day to day activities within Health Information Management Department
• Assists Health Information Management Officer in the supervision of health information management operations in the department
• Reports any Information Technology related problems to IT support desk and following-up for resolutions
• Utilizes computerized applications in clerical & Administrative activities
• Orders and restocking office supplies
• Maintains photocopying documents as needed
• Records keeping for essential day-to-day work
• Demonstrates customer focus when interacting with internal or external customers of the

• Maintains positive working relationships within the department/section and between various facility departments
• Responds to verbal and written inquiries in a timely manner
• Provides technical expertise in identifying potential issues
• Discusses with Manager/Senior Officer (if necessary) before recommending solutions after obtaining and verifying information
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Participates in all team efforts as required
• Collaborates with other members of the team to carry out work smoothly

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2-4 years of relevant experience

Educational Qualification: Required:

• Diploma in Translation English/Arabic language or relevant field
