The Pediatric – Trauma PIPS Coordinator for a program is responsible for designing and managing the implementation, operations, and evaluation of strategic programs or functions within SSMC to improve the clinical outcomes associated with the care of the pediatric trauma population.

As the region’s leading tertiary facility, SSMC has 742 patient beds, 18 operating theatres, and includes a hybrid operating room, 26-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and the UAE’s largest pathology lab.
The Pediatric – Trauma PIPS Coordinator for a program is responsible for designing and managing the implementation, operations, and evaluation of strategic programs or functions within SSMC to improve the clinical outcomes associated with the care of the pediatric trauma population.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Adult – Trauma PIPS Coordinator:
- Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager, the Pediatric – Trauma PIPS Coordinator develops, implements and evaluates the trauma program and performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) plan.
- The Pediatric – Trauma PIPS Coordinator is a licensed healthcare professional with evidence of educational preparation and clinical experience in the care of pediatric trauma patients.
- The Pediatric – Trauma PIPS Coordinator works under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager and coordinates all aspects of pediatric trauma care including but not limited to:
- Performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program
- Alignment with industry best practices and recommendation for process improvements
- Clinical care guidelines
- Research collaboration
- Local, regional, and national involvement of trauma system development
- Supports Research Coordinator to enable the program research.
- Performance Improvement - Participates in Quality Management and Performance Improvement activities: Identifies patient care, system, and/or process issues and trends; Assists with chart reviews, data collection and preparation for case presentations.
- Works with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager and all other departments in the investigation and resolution of issues, and performance improvement activities related to Trauma care delivery.
- Monitors, reviews, and reports extracted from the trauma registry and all other relevant reports
- Assists in the development/revision of administrative policies and clinical nursing guidelines/standards of care for program patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
- Participates in Departmental meetings, and attends conventions, conferences, workshops, and other professional meetings to extend learning and to represent SSMC Center.
- Update the Trauma performance improvement plan (PIPS) annually
- Develops and maintains an adult trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program.
- Serve as Technical expert in the program development.
- Provide guidance to all employees involved in program.
- Provide performance feedback on program employees to applicable managers.
- Evaluate and report to departmental/organizational senior management on status and changes in program.
- Participate in case review, track PIPS reviews and action plans, design and implement practice guidelines.
- Role models service excellence in interactions with internal and external constituents.
- Establishes a strong cooperative relationship with applicable leaders by providing the information, tools and services necessary to improve the outcomes associated with the program.
- Designs and orchestrates the delivery of applicable communication to internal and external constituents.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication using a variety of methodologies.
- Coordinates presentations and ensures consistent communication related to the program.
- Participates in the review of program processes.
- Recommends and participates in implementation of process improvements. Monitors and measures process changes.

- Work with other relevant program operations managers to design the trauma registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.
- Works collaboratively with appropriate stakeholders to develop the strategic plan for the trauma program both internally and externally.
- Collaborates with other appropriate departments & entities (internal & external) for all research opportunities relating to the trauma program,
- Responsible for other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Accountabilities
- Performance Improvement - identification, action plans, resolution and documentation of the process
QUALIFICATIONS
- Clinical Bachelor’s Degree (preferably BSN or medical/para-medical degree)
- Current national professional license or equivalent
- Certified proof of yearly CME
- Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course completion (if not, within 6 months of starting the role)
- Trauma Program Manager Course Completion (optional)
- Recognized Registrar Certification CAIS or CSTR (optional)
- Injury Scaling Certification (current edition AIS15) (optional)
- ICD Coding Certification (optional)
- Quality Management Certification (optional)
- TNCC or ATCN Certification (optional)
- BLS, ACLS & PALS/ENPC Certification
Required:
- Two (2) years of pediatric trauma care experience or general pediatric nursing
