Job Summary

The Principal Software Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and management of complex software systems for defence applications, specifically for the Vehicle Active Protection System (V-APS).

The incumbent ensures these systems meet stringent security standards and function efficiently within a larger defence framework, while also mentoring senior engineers and leading strategic project initiatives. This role includes specialized responsibility for System Logic and Control.

Key Accountabilities:

Technical Leadership

• Define software system architecture and components.
• Integrate AI and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) into the software lifecycle.
• Maintain and update software to fix bugs, add features, and ensure security compliance.
• Design and manage logic for operational and safety-critical systems.
  
  

System Design & Integration

• Develop modular, open software architectures.
• Ensure platform integration and performance compliance.
• Validate test results and support database functionality.
  
  

Requirements & Analysis

• Analyze stakeholder needs and develop specifications.
• Use modeling and simulation for concept feasibility.
• Align design with verification results.
  
  

Testing & Validation

• Execute and validate software testing.
• Analyze test results against user requirements.
• Collaboration & Leadership:
• Guide and mentor teams while ensuring user value alignment.
• Provide technical input and foster teamwork.
  
  

Documentation & Compliance

• Create specifications, user manuals, and reports.
• Ensure software meets industry standards and certification requirements.
  
  

Project Management & Risk Mitigation

• Develop and maintain software and verification plans.
• Manage risks and support compliance with project goals.
  
  

Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on emerging technologies.
• Identify enhancements for system performance and contribute to roadmaps.
  
  

Experience & Education Qualifications:

• Engineering Degree (Bachelor).
• 10 years engineering experience in the Defence domain.
• 3+ years’ experience in the certification/classification methodology of software systems
• Knowledge of system control, software subsystem design and a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, but strong interface design skills.
• The application of technical specification practices, especially considering international standards, practices, and certification, e.g. MIL-STDs, IEC/IEEE standards, SAE standards (e.g. ARP 4754A/B), RTCA standards (e.g. DO-178C and/or ISO26262 ), System Modelling Language (SysML), etc
