Job Title: Safety Officer – Construction (Deep Excavation)

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Job Summary:

The Safety Officer will ensure all safety protocols are implemented and maintained at the construction site, with particular focus on deep excavation projects. The role requires adherence to local regulations and international best practices to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Compliance:

• Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations, particularly for deep excavation sites.
• Ensure all activities comply with Abu Dhabi EHSMS (Environment, Health, and Safety Management System) and relevant authorities (e.g., OSHAD, ADM, ADSSC).

Risk Assessment:

• Conduct site-specific risk assessments, especially related to deep excavation work.
• Develop and implement mitigation measures for identified risks.

Permit Management:

• Ensure proper permits are obtained and adhered to for excavation, confined spaces, and heavy machinery.

Training & Awareness:

• Conduct safety inductions and toolbox talks for site personnel and subcontractors.
• Provide training on excavation safety, shoring, dewatering, and emergency response procedures.

Safety Inspections & Audits:

• Carry out regular site inspections and audits, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and corrective measures.

Accident Investigation & Reporting:

• Investigate all incidents, including near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with corrective measures.

Emergency Preparedness:

• Ensure emergency rescue plans and equipment are in place and functional, especially for trench collapses or confined space rescues.

Collaboration:

• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to enforce a culture of safety.
• Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies during safety inspections or audits.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong understanding of deep excavation safety protocols, including trench shoring, benching, and slope protection.
• Familiarity with confined space entry regulations.
• Knowledge of dewatering and soil stability assessments.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to promote a safety-first culture.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make critical safety decisions promptly.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent is mandatory.
• Certification in Confined Space Entry and First Aid/CPR is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry, with specific expertise in deep excavation projects.
• Experience in Abu Dhabi or the UAE with knowledge of local regulations (OSHAD Code of Practice, EHS Management System) is required.
• Proficiency in report writing and safety documentation management.

Other Requirements:

• Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
• Availability to be stationed full-time on-site in Abu Dhabi.
