Wio DeFi is building the region’s first stablecoin/DeFi banking platform for SMEs and retail. We sit at the intersection of payments, custody, compliance, and blockchain. You’ll join the early engineering team shaping the product, setting the technical direction, delivering the MVP, and scaling the platform to millions of users.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing Wio DeFi team.

You’ll work in a small, sharp team that moves fast, ships often, and focuses on building systems that are both robust and scalable. If you enjoy ownership, problem-solving, and building things from scratch, this is the right place.

The ideal candidate has strong backend fundamentals and is open to understanding blockchain mechanics. Most of the work involves backend systems engineering that integrates with blockchain infrastructure, Fireblocks, and core banking systems.

This is an opportunity to build a new platform from zero, have your ideas turned into reality, and potentially grow into a lead role as the team expands.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services integrating with blockchain custody and core banking systems.
• Own service implementation end-to-end: design, code, testing, deployment.
• Build secure, scalable, well-documented APIs and internal services.
• Work closely with product and DevOps to ensure smooth releases and high reliability.
• Participate in architecture discussions and bring thoughtful input on trade-offs and scalability.
• Stay up to date with backend and blockchain technologies and propose improvements.
• Be open to learning blockchain concepts and decentralized systems.
  
  

Qualifications

Required

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with production systems to show.
• Strong Java + Spring Boot experience.
• Sharp coding skills and strong architectural instincts.
• Solid understanding of backend fundamentals: distributed systems, APIs, databases, concurrency, security, idempotency, caching.
• Experience with event-driven patterns (Kafka, EventBridge, WebSockets, etc.).
• Quick learner, comfortable with new frameworks or languages.
• Strong problem-solving and system design skills.
• Clear communicator who can explain and document complex ideas.
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or DeFi.
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (Alibaba, Azure).
• Experience in security-sensitive or regulated environments.
• Exposure to blockchain infrastructure or custodial solutions (Fireblocks, Safe, Coinbase Custody, RPC nodes, etc.).

• Backend: Java + Spring Boot (we are Java-heavy, but open to new languages)
• Integrations: Fireblocks, blockchain APIs, core banking APIs, Web3 libraries
• Infrastructure: Alibaba Cloud, Docker, containerized environments
• Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, event streaming
• System: Microservices architecture
