We are happy to announce we have a Senior Naval Architect/ MWS Engineer, join our well-qualified and growing engineering team with marine transportation and installation experience. The successful candidate will be part of our growing team in Abu Dhabi, with strong collaboration with other ABL group offices worldwide.

What you will be doing.

As a Senior Naval Architect, you will be involved in MWS reviews, carry reviews, project management and coordination of MWS projects, oversee a team of engineers and be responsible for the planning, verifying, executing and delivery of projects and marine warranty and engineering consultancy scopes. My key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake Marine Warranty scope of work – project manages MWS services, undertake reviews, attend meetings with clients, onshore and offshore site surveys for approving operations.
  • Supervise (prepare) as required and assist with Naval Architecture/Engineering design, calculations and analysis for designs of various Structural Engineering elements pertaining to the project in accordance with international codes and standards.
  • Assist and/or lead projects (as assigned by the manager) to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to customers within the timeframe, costs and quality standards established by ABL and/or the Client.
  • Responsible for the execution of projects and deliverables in accordance with quality and HSE standards.
  • Perform concept and detailed design/analysis of various fixed/floating offshore structures and MODUs.
  • Attend regular internal meetings and external/third party meetings as required.
  • Maintain responsibility for Naval Architecture/Structural Engineering integrity, prepare working forecasts, identify change management plans, and corrective action as well as real-time schedules.
  • Ensure all deliverables are carried out by ABL policies and procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews, audits, and Naval Arch/Structural Engineering-related reviews. Evaluate and prepare concept selection reports and basis for design.
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals for bids and tender inputs, developing new business.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and motivation to subordinates and provide training to personnel new to the structural systems analyses and design as required.
  • And other duties as assigned.

This role is primarily office-based but requires onsite attendance onshore and offshore and on time with clients. The candidate has the right to live and work in Abu Dhabi.

In addition, you will:

  • Degree in Naval Architecture or a related field.
  • 10+ years in transport and installation engineering with expertise in loadout, transportation, and installation of offshore assets.
  • Hands-on experience with jack-ups, MODUs, and heavy transport vessels, including detailed structural FEA and vessel stability analysis.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and codes, including DNV-ST-N001, API/AISC, IMO, and classification society standards.
  • Proven leadership in project execution, maintaining high standards on time and within budget.
  • Strong project management and client relationship skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software, including GHS, SACS, ORCAFLEX, MOSES, Staad Pro, and FEMAP.
  • Skilled in writing clear, detailed technical reports.
  • High attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Client-focused, results-oriented, and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Strong business acumen, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Chartered engineer status or equivalent
  • Member of the Society of Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS)
  • Prior experience in Modularization projects in the Oil & Gas industry, marine operations and ODC/heavy lift cargo movements using SPMT and lifting etc.
  • Prior MWS experience is an advantage.
  • Familiar with vessel inspection protocols such as suitability inspections, on-hire/off-hire condition inspections etc.
  • Prior hands-on offshore field engineering experience in fixed platforms and subsea installations such as cables/umbilical’s, rigid and flexible pipeline installations, J tube pulling/ shore pull operations etc.
