Job Description
Serves as a specialist in the emergency department, diagnoses and treats patients for diseases and disabilities; directs preventive care of patients according to approved procedures which are part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services.
Responsibilities
3.1 To perform the professional duties of a Specialist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the credential committee.
3.2 Determines which cases constitute an emergency, extends rapid treatment to the patient as needed, makes quick decisions, and chooses the correct consultant for necessary additional guidance.
3.3 Upon request examines in-patients on wards/ICU, rendering immediate judgment and treatment if necessary.
3.4 Advises nursing personnel regarding medical problems; responds to radio-telephone calls from remote areas requesting medical advice; occasionally must go on emergency ambulance trips or otherwise use good judgment in responding to bona fide outside emergencies.
3.5 Completes all medical records and case histories promptly, indicating thereon the diagnosis and treatment given. Is responsible for the medical accuracy, completeness and confidential nature of patients’ medical records.
3.6 To ensure timely and accurate data to be notified to DOH of notifiable public health data and other data as per DOH rules, regulations and standards.
3.7 Provides health counseling of patients as needed.
3.8 Attends professional and hospital meetings as directed by the HOD. Occasionally prepares cases for presentation at ward rounds and staff meetings.
3.9 To perform duties in outpatient clinics (if and when required)
3.10 Provides on-call emergency coverage.
3.11 Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Emergency Services.
4. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
4.1 Work in all shifts as scheduled by the head of the department.
4.2 Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
4.3 Strictly adheres to organization’s regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, EHSMS, HAAD, JCI and ISO.
4.4 Supports Continuous Quality Improvement and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service.
4.5 Participates and contributes in scheduled in-service training programs like ACLS, BLS, CNEs, CMEs, In house activities, conferences or other programs as requested.
4.6 Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates and Management.
4.7 Maintains confidentiality as per the agreement signed.
4.8 Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
4.9 Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
4.10 Carries out other duties when requested by the Head of department.
4.11 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
4.12 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
4.13 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
4.14 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
4.15 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
4.16 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
4.17 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
Qualifications
5.1 Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with an MBBS degree.
5.2 Post graduate degree in Emergency Medicine( MD ER) or equivalent
5.3 Minimum of three years full time in the practice of ER post MD (Emergency Medicine) or Certificate of degree of specialist in medicine awarded by Finnish University or post certification by American Board of Medical Specialties or Fellowship certificate approved by the College of Medicine of South Africa or equivalent .
5.4 Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
5.5 Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
5.6 Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
5.7 ATLS certified
5.8 Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families
