Job Description

The purpose of the role for the Specialist Materials Coordination is to source, produce, and document the FF&E and interior finishes aspects of interior design projects, working with project team leaders. Documents will include specification sheets, control samples, value-engineered schedules, and coordination with all the relevant departments to achieve the project's design intent and budget.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Prepare FF&E specification sheets and include all data sheets from suppliers to ensure comprehensive documentation of material finishes and equipment details, facilitating clear communication and adherence to design standards throughout the project.
  • Create practical, realistic sample boards that include design and material selections to provide a tangible representation of the envisioned aesthetic and facilitate informed decision-making in the design process.
  • Liaise with design and procurement teams to ensure that the FF&E are in line with client expectations and to budget, fostering effective communication and collaboration to achieve project goals.
  • Assist interior designers to order material physical samples, facilitating the exploration of textures, colors, and finishes for comprehensive design evaluations and client presentations.
  • Communicate design changes and respond to design changes in a timely manner with the site team and other internal key players in order to keep the project up to date.
  • Assist teams in resolving issues and/or provide clarification by working with the internal departments, interior designer, supplier, and customer during the pricing process in order to ensure accurate cost assessments, foster seamless communication, and facilitate the successful progression of the project.
  • Drive innovation in design, exploring and recommending new ways of working/technology in order to enhance design for clients and customers.
  • Report on a weekly basis, providing updates on progress, challenges, and risks to ensure on time planning, progress, and mitigation measures.

Person Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma in interior design, architecture, or a relevant field.
  • 2-4+ years of experience in commercial or relevant interior construction.
  • Demonstrated planning and organization skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated ability in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of interior construction and build ability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of commercial interior design and space planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret design markups and 3D renders.
  • Proven experience in materials research, selection, and specification for design projects.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.

Desirable

  • Ability to undertake client presentations.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in commercial BOQs and interpretation within drawings.
