The Mining Technical Director will be responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership across all mining projects. The candidate will lead and deliver projects across the Middle East region and will collaboration and work with WSP global teams. This role ensures that mining projects are designed, developed, and executed safely, efficiently, and sustainably. The Technical Director oversees geological, waste and operational functions to optimize production, manage resources, and maintain compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

• Develop and implement technical strategies for mining projects.
• Lead long-term mine planning and life-of-mine design to ensure operational sustainability and profitability.
• Provide technical advice to the executive team and board on project feasibility, risks, and opportunities.
  
  
  

Operational Oversight

• Supervise and review all technical aspects of mining projects, including mine design, geological aspects, waste management and material handling.
• Ensure that production targets and cost objectives are met or exceeded.
• Introduce innovative technologies and best practices to improve productivity and safety.
  
  
  

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

• Promote a strong culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all operations.
• Ensure compliance with national and international mining, environmental, and labor regulations.
• Oversee the implementation of sustainable mining practices and environmental management systems.
  
  
  

Technical Management & Support

• Oversee geological modeling, resource estimation, and geotechnical analysis.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers, geologists, and technical managers.
• Evaluate and approve technical designs, operational plans, and engineering reports.
  
  
  

Budgeting & Financial Control

• Grow the mining sector for WSP in the Middle East
• Prepare and manage technical budgets and capital expenditure plans.
• Monitor financial performance of technical operations and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Support investment decisions through detailed technical and economic evaluations.
  
  
  

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and local communities.
• Represent the company in technical meetings, industry conferences, and with government authorities.
  
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum of 20 years’ experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior technical or executive role.
• Proven experience in open-pit and/or underground mining operations.
• Strong knowledge of mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan, Whittle).
• Deep understanding of health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
