Anesthesia Technician

Preparing patients and assists during induction, maintenance of and recovery from anesthesia.

Performs duties under the direct supervision of Anesthesiologist.

Ensuring properly functioning suctioning equipment is on hand.

Setting up endotracheal tubes (ET) and Arranging transtracheal jet ventilation devices.
-
Provides support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia
-
Stocking self-inflating resuscitation bags, breathing circuits and masks.
-
Performs first level maintenance on anesthesia equipment.
-
Cleans, sterilizes, disinfects, stocks, orders and maintains the routine anesthesia equipment and supplies
-
Checks anesthesia machine on a daily basis, prior to surgery, to ensure the gas scavenging system and the suction apparatus are attached and functioning at optimal level.

Double-checking instrument calibrations
-
Cleans equipment and stores supplies related to anesthesia.
-
Ensuring the adequate stock of laryngoscope blades
-
Ensuring gas cylinders are full, functional and on hand
-
Works with a wide variety of equipment specific to administration of anesthesia, patient monitoring and related life support systems.
-
Understands the sequence of procedures required for rapid induction and intubation used in emergency cases to prevent vomiting and aspiration.
-
Performs Sellick’s Maneuver (Cricoid pressure) as required.
-
Positions patients for surgery who require spinal or epidural anesthesia with the awareness of sterile techniques.
-
Familiar with equipment, supplies and pharmacological agents and is familiar with locations of same.
-
Assists anesthetists with starting I.V. infusion.
-
Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents.
-
Post-surgery check for sodalime depletion in the CO2 absorbers.
-
Disassemble (and reassemble before surgery) absorbers for cleaning and sterilization;
-
Handle and store all volatile gas cylinders and related supplies;
-
Dispose of spent CO2 absorbent;
-
Recalibrate instrumentation.

Valid DOH/DHA License or DOH/DHA Exam pass result as Anesthesia Technologist/Technician.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Anesthesia technology from an accredited University (Min 3 Years course duration) or
- Diploma in Anesthesia Technology from an accredited University (Min 2 Years course duration).
- Minimum 2 years of experience after qualification and registration/license to practice.
- Preference to candidate with experience from Maternity care hospitals.

Valid Home country registration as Anesthesia Technologist/Technician.
- Valid Basic life support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
