Specialist, Sedimentologist

JOB PURPOSE:

Conduct and coordinate sedimentological analyses, studies and evaluations to understand the local and sub-regional geology within the boundaries of Abu Dhabi. This includes core studies, petrographical studies using thin sections, SEM photography, studies of the composition and structure of sedimentary rocks to classify the deposits and verify the origin of the sediments in order to ascertain the special relationships between the different sedimentary rock masses, including the geometry of bodies, contact and age relationships, special variations in texture and mineralogy, allowing the prediction of the location of good reservoir facies. Prepare sedimentological models, including the paleo-depositional environment which serve as input in play evaluation studies, exploration prospect maturation studies and well proposals which will contribute towards replacement of produced reserves.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Job Specific:

• Coordinate and conduct sedimentological analyses, studies and evaluations, as routine part of the exploration process workflow. This includes core studies, petrographical studies using thin sections, SEM photography, studies of the composition and structure of sedimentary rocks to classify the deposits and verify the origin of the sediments, all in close cooperation other disciplines and integrating all sedimentological, petrophysical, petroleum engineering, geological and well data.
• Monitor the work of consultants involved in sedimentological studies to ensure accuracy and quality of the work carried out and reports the results to team members and other concerned parties
• Lead/supervise the preparation, verification/validation and continuous updating of paleo-depositional models for exploration purposes.
• Design/lead/supervise/conduct studies using all sedimentological work methods (i.e. for instance core description, thin section studies, SEM photography, petrological and petrographical studies, lithostratigraphy, etc.) and integrates the results with other exploration-relevant disciplines.
• Review the results of previous sedimentological studies/evaluation and identifies gaps or additional work that is required (e.g. specialized studies to constrain and/or improve the integration of sedimentological results with petroleum systems models).
• Initiate, /supervise/coordinate/conduct core studies, core descriptions and petrographic analyses to support revised/updated and new sedimentological interpretations.
• Contribute/participate and review the sedimentological aspects of stratigraphic, geophysical and petrophysical studies and geologic work approaches ongoing within the function and conducted by third parties.
• Prepare sedimentological input files (i.e. paleo-environmental maps and data sheets) needed for generating petroleum system models (PSMs) to assess the potential of exploration targets in Abu Dhabi, update PSMs and support the basin modeller. The updates will include verification of previous data, and integration of new data and running/testing alternative scenarios.
• Participate in and contributes to prospect volumetrics, risk assessment, portfolio ranking and documentation of the final results.
• Liaise with suppliers of geological and sedimentological software, staying up-to-date with the latest software developments and new technologies which are of potential value to the function and to attend conferences, seminars and to review technical periodicals.
• Propose and prepare data exchanges / trades with companies active in the countries and emirates surrounding Abu Dhabi, to complement ADNOC corporate database and to be used in regional studies.
• Contribute to regular management reports such as the weekly highlights, weekly action points, daily exploration well drilling reports, etc.
• Recommend the acquisition of new software and hardware related to exploration geology or sedimentology. To participate in the preparation of justifications for these acquisitions.
• Coordinate, assist and delegate any ad-hoc tasks and projects such as data requests from universities or other third parties, training requests from UAE University, GIS database, etc.
  
  

Ensure the receipt, QC, calibration and updating of corporate and exploration databases with data received from service providers, Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and other third parties

Daily with staff within the Division and Function regarding project execution

•  Frequent contacts with staff from Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and International Shareholders on joint studies or exploration projects carried out by the OPCOs or SPC companies.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in geology/geoscience or equivalent

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills

10 years in all aspects of exploration geology sedimentology and extensive experience in lead and prospects maturation, etc
