Overview

We're seeking a Cloud Engineer - Storage & Backup to design, implement, and optimize cloud storage and backup solutions on Microsoft Azure.

As part of the Microsoft Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE), you will ensure scalability, high availability, data protection, and cost efficiency across enterprise cloud environments. The ideal candidate has expertise in Azure Storage (Blob, Files, Disks), Backup & Disaster Recovery (Azure Backup, Site Recovery), Storage Security, and Performance Optimization.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage Azure Storage accounts, Blob, Files, Table, and Queue storage.
• Implement storage tiering, lifecycle policies, and cost-optimization strategies.
• Configure Azure Managed Disks (Standard, Premium, Ultra) for virtual machines.
• Deploy and manage Azure NetApp Files and Azure Elastic SAN for high-performance workloads.
• Implement geo-redundancy, cross-region replication, and failover strategies.
• Deploy and manage Azure Backup for VMs, SQL, Files, and SAP HANA.
• Configure Azure Site Recovery (ASR) for DR planning and failover testing.
• Develop RPO/RTO strategies for business-critical applications.
• Automate backup retention, restore, and archival policies using Azure Policy and Logic Apps.
• Implement backup encryption, immutable storage, and ransomware protection.
• Implement RBAC, Private Endpoints, and Managed Identities for storage access control.
• Enforce encryption policies (Storage Service Encryption, Customer-Managed Keys, SSE).
• Monitor storage access logs and anomaly detection using Microsoft Defender for Storage.
• Ensure compliance with SOC2, HIPAA, NIST, GDPR, and CIS benchmarks.
• Automate storage provisioning and backup policies using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM Templates.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines for storage and backup configurations in Azure DevOps.
• Implement auto-scaling and performance tuning for high-traffic workloads.
• Leverage Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Event Grid for backup automation workflows.
• Use Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Storage Insights for storage performance tracking.
• Optimize data retrieval, compression, deduplication, and cold storage archival.
• Reduce storage costs using Reserved Capacity, Lifecycle Policies, and Intelligent Tiering.
• Configure Azure File Sync for hybrid cloud storage integration.
• Manage multi-cloud storage and hybrid data replication.
  
  

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Cloud Storage & Backup Engineering, with at least a year in Azure.
• Strong expertise in Azure Blob, Files, Disks, Backup, and Site Recovery (ASR).
• Experience with RBAC, storage security, encryption, and compliance automation.
• Hands-on experience in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) for storage automation.
• Knowledge of storage performance tuning, tiering, and cost optimization strategies.
• Strong written and verbal English skills are required for effective communication.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for storage performance and backup failures.
• Excellent collaboration and communication with Cloud, DevOps, and Security teams.
• Ability to document storage architectures, disaster recovery plans, and automation workflows.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with multi-cloud storage solutions.
• Familiarity with object storage, content delivery networks (Azure CDN), and data lake solutions.
• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Storage Specialist, Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
• Experience with large-scale backup strategies, ransomware protection, and disaster recovery automation.
