Job Description
Lead sustainability for Canon Middle East, to support and drive the local delivery of Canon EMEA’s sustainability strategy, programs and objectives. Coach and manage the team of regional Sustainability Specialists based in Canon Middle East, Central & North Africa and Canon South Africa.
Manage customer engagement on sustainability, lead social & educational programs activity and where appropriate, oversee the implementation of circular economy initiatives.
Develop and deliver effective local compliance programs and activity relating to product safety, environment & waste, and chemicals, and certification in relation to environmental management systems (ISO14001).

Responsibilities
- Line management responsibility for Sustainability Specialists, including objective setting, development, performance management and monitoring the effectiveness of support to their local teams on both sustainability matters and compliance and certification.
- Provision of bid support to sales teams and manage ongoing customer requests for Sustainability information; tracking trends and collecting data on customer demands on Sustainability.
- Working in collaboration with local CCMS teams, lead the delivery of local Young People Programs and other social & educational activity in line with CEMEA’s overall strategy and framework for social and educational programs.
- Budget management for all sustainability related activities (engagement, compliance and certification) in assigned area. Ensure budget management activity to ensure appropriate financial allocation to deliver both mandatory compliance and other requirements in each entity.
- Collaborate with NSO CCMS teams to deliver focused and effective communications and activities to improve internal employee engagement measures, also externally to raise Canon’s profile on Sustainability. Act as local spokesperson on sustainability matters as necessary. Manage any annual/periodic corporate sustainability reporting requirements if they arise within country/region of responsibility.
- Working closely with RSHQ, relevant local departments, and external partners, oversee and monitor the implementation of local compliance delivery in relation to product safety, environment & waste and chemicals. Manage relevant legal compliance and sustainability/product safety reporting requirements.
- Maintain ISO 14001 certification and demonstrate continuous improvement on environmental management for sites determined by CINC and RSHQ. This includes overseeing all relevant communication, training, data and document management, and auditing requirements. Work with local management teams to ensure risks of non-conformity are successfully controlled.
- Collate and report local environmental performance data and support RSHQ’s monitoring of suppliers’ adherence to Canon’s Green Procurement standard.
- Build capabilities, including through relevant training, within local teams responsible for delivering Sustainability compliance and certification.
- Qualification in sustainability, environmental management or similar with membership of a relevant professional institution
- Experience in managing teams to deliver effective sustainability support and services.
- Experience in building strong, collaborative business relationships to influence sustainable change and drive delivery sustainability programs.
- Experience in managing governance and compliance reporting systems, ideally in a strategic sustainability and/or regulatory context.
- Strong knowledge of current sustainability best practice, initiatives and key market drivers including carbon net zero, circular economy and social value
- Experience of managing sustainability compliance and certification issues with a good understanding of environmental regulations and standards
- Knowledge and experience in Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) including local implementation and management within a large multi-site organization.
- Budget management including planning, forecasting and delivery.
