Synopsis
The ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) Manager plays a critical role in advancing Etihad Airways’ ESG agenda, embedding stewardship, innovation, and compliance across operations. With extensive experience in regulatory leadership, industry engagement (IATA & ICAO), and advisory roles in national environmental policy, this position drives the airline’s ESG strategy and cross-functional integration.
Accountabilities
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, was formed in 2003 and quickly went on to become one of the world’s leading airlines. From its home in Abu Dhabi, Etihad flies to passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. Together with Etihad’s codeshare partners, Etihad’s network offers access to hundreds of international destinations. In recent years, Etihad has received numerous awards for its superior service and products, cargo offering, loyalty programme and more. All this ties into Etihad’s ambitious Journey 2030 strategy. The airline plans to double its fleet size and triple the number of customers over the next six years as it sets out to be the airline everyone wants to fly!

Accountabilities
- Ensure the Alignment of the ESG strategy with global aviation standards, national policies, and internal sustainability goals.
- Ensure adherence to ESG regulations (CORSIA, EU/UK ETS, Refuel EU, ADQ), oversee disclosures (GRI, SASB, TCFD, IEnvA – ISO14001), and maintain audit readiness.
- Drive ESG related initiatives on emissions reduction, resource efficiency, and ethical governance.
- Monitor ESG KPIs , targets and Initiatives ensuring robust tracking of impact measurement, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
- Identify ESG risks, monitor policy trends, and provide strategic recommendations.
- Advise internal teams on regulatory risks, investment opportunities, and sustainability strategies while representing Etihad in industry forums and stakeholder engagements.
- Collaborate with industry partners (government, NGOs, international organizations) to shape and influence ESG agendas.
- Build internal ESG capabilities through training, education programs, and engagement in global forums to promote sustainable aviation practices.
- Champion ESG awareness and capability building , delivering training and education programs, empowering internal employees and youth leaders to drive a value-based ESG culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Climate or related area.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in environmental management (MSc), MBA with Sustainability/ESG focus, or a Master’s in Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or Public Policy (with an environmental focus).
- Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks (GRI, TCFD, SASB, CDP), aviation compliance (CORSIA, UK/EU Emission Trading Schemes), and carbon accounting.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the ESG field.
- ISO14001:2004 EIMA Approved Lead Environmental Auditor
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Understanding of ESG-related financial disclosures and investor expectations
- Proven ability to navigate complex, cross-functional environments and drive organizational change
