Job Description

As a Medical Coder, you will be an essential part of the healthcare billing process. Your primary role will involve reviewing medical records and assigning standardized codes to diagnoses and procedures. This facilitates billing processes, ensures compliance with insurance and governmental regulations, and aids in preparing statistical reports for health management systems. You will need to be meticulous, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about medical terminology, procedures, and insurance guidelines. Working closely with healthcare providers, you will ensure accurate coding for maximum reimbursement while maintaining patient confidentiality. Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records to identify appropriate procedures, diagnoses, and services.
• Assign correct Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes.
• Ensure coding accuracy to maximize revenue and streamline billing processes.
• Participate in coding audits and reviews to maintain compliance standards.
• Communicate with healthcare providers for clarification on complex cases.
• Stay up-to-date with coding guidelines, policies, and updates in medical coding regulations.
• Provide training and support to new medical coding staff when necessary.
• Collaborate with billing departments to resolve any discrepancies in claims.
• Prepare regular coding quality assurance reports for management review.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance coding operations.
• Ensure all codes are compliant with insurance and governmental regulations.

Requirements

• Certification from a professional coding organization such as AHIMA or AAPC.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a medical coding role.
• Profound knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Ability to interpret medical records and understand medical terminology.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient in using medical coding software and electronic health records.
