WSP Middle East are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Resident Engineer - Electrical with a strong background in overseeing and managing electrical installations for 33kV substations and cable Works to join us in AlAin,UAE.
The role will involve providing technical leadership on-site, ensuring the successful execution of electrical substation projects, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical systems, particularly in the context of high voltage substations, coupled with leadership experience in managing large-scale projects and teams.
Your new role, what's involved?
Site Supervision & Management: Supervise and manage daily operations at the site, ensuring that all electrical activities related to the 33kV substation project are carried out in accordance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
Engineering Oversight: Provide specialized electrical engineering guidance on the design, installation, and commissioning of equipment at the 33kV substation, ensuring compliance with national and international standards, codes, and regulations.
Quality Control & Assurance: Conduct inspections and audits to verify that installations meet technical and regulatory requirements, ensuring high-quality standards for electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection, and control systems.
Project Coordination: Collaborate with the project team, including contractors, subcontractors, and engineers, to ensure the project progresses on schedule, stays within budget, and meets required quality standards.
Risk Management & Problem Solving: Identify and address potential electrical system risks, providing solutions. Resolve issues quickly during installation or testing without compromising project timelines or safety.
Technical Reporting & Documentation: Prepare regular reports on the progress of electrical work, highlighting delays, challenges, and resolutions. Ensure accurate documentation, including as-built drawings, test results, and compliance certifications.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with company health, safety, and environmental policies. Monitor site safety, conduct regular audits, and promote safe working practices by setting an example.
Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical-related issues for internal and external stakeholders. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and vendors to address technical and operational matters.
Commissioning Support: Assist in the commissioning of electrical equipment and systems, ensuring that all equipment is tested, calibrated, and operates according to design specifications.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 10-15 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a Principal Resident Engineer (PRE) role, specifically in overseeing 33kV substation projects in a consultancy background.
- Previous PRE approval with a TAQA-affiliated company is required.
- PMP Certification is preferred.
- Proven experience in managing electrical installations, testing, and commissioning of high-voltage equipment (e.g., switchgear, transformers, protection systems) within a substation environment.
- Familiarity with international electrical standards and codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of 33kV substations, protection systems, control systems, and other associated high-voltage equipment.
- Strong understanding of substation design, layout, and automation systems.
- Proficiency in design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, PSS SINCAL, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety protocols, fault analysis, and system stability analysis.
- Ideally, possess an internal/external auditing qualification, with certifications such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or ISO 9001.
