Resident Engineer

Our client a leading international design and project management consultancy has an urgent requirement for a Resident Engineer with experience delivering high spec hotel projects for a fast-paced project in Abu Dhabi.

Note: due to the tight program of work this will be a 6-day week.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• The minimum qualifications for this role are:
• Minimum of 15-20 years of relevant industry experience as Resident Engineer in which 10 years in UAE, including site supervision experience in administering and delivering to completion of large-scaled at least two 5-star hospitality projects (Preferably in the Middle East / UAE)
• Experience in delivering projects in Abu Dhabi.
• Experience in delivering multi-disciplinary site supervision team.
• Through knowledge in Abu Dhabi authority approval requirements and processes.
• Experience in delivering Enabling works including piling activities
• Good academic credentials with minimum of a degree in Architecture/Civil Engineering
• Astute and level-headed professional with exemplary leadership qualities; problem solver with good work attitude, good interpersonal skills; ability to handle extreme work pressure; and track-record of heading multi-disciplinary consultant teams.
• Membership in appropriate professional institution(s) including FIDIC certifications would be an added advantage.
• Able to manage sensitive and / or confidential information
• A proactive and hands-on person with a positive team attitude.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The main duties of the Resident Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:

• Planning directing and responsible for managerial supervision of the project construction in all areas.
• Manage the Consultant team including Specialists and their works activities implementation on site.
• Stakeholder management- Client servicing, Contractor management.
• Responsible in coordinating and managing people and assist the PMC team for the materials equipment, schedules and contracts.
• Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities of construction.
• Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for construction; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
• Advice the Client and Contractor of potential risks and suggested mitigation plans.
• Control site activities via works checks, review of Contractors work plans, Progress reviews, details of sequences and works implementation.
• Advice and assist the Client team / PMC team on timely activation of pending approvals, timely activation of provisional sum packages and related contractual matters.
• Involve in all critical decisions along with the Client, including expediting approval of dependencies for critical works.
• Lead project weekly and progress meetings and manage actions and follows-ups.
• Managing of technical, administrative and planning processes of the team.
• Determine construction means and methods and the most cost-effective plans and schedules.
• Ensure all personnel on the project comply with safety and environmental requirements.
• Conduct regular visits and inspection of the project site to ensure quality of work is in compliance with contract requirements, good construction practice, only approved materials are used, compliance with shop drawings, and report any deviations for correction to the Contractor and notify the Employer.
• Participate in reviewing the Contract documents for each Construction package and advise of any deficiency.
• Review of contractor transmittals addressing construction methodology, method statements, project quality plan, quality control procedures, inspection and test plans, safety plans, schedules, and compliance with Project objectives.
• Advise on any potential variation to construction scope of works, which may generate cost or time impact and present PMC assessment.
• Participate in assessing contractor's claims and report to PMC and Client.
• Advise PMC on any foreseen slippage of progress and propose corrective actions.
• Supervise sub-contractors and monitor them for progress and quality.
• Assist PMC for the Project close-out and issuance of TOC for Clients approval.
• Responsible for implementing and monitoring Consultant's Site Operation procedures.
• Assume any other responsibility delegated by the line manager.
