Job Summary:

The Retail Associate will be a key member of our team, responsible for providing exceptional customer service, assisting with daily store operations, and maintaining a welcoming environment for all crafters. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for yarn and crafts (especially knitting and crochet) who enjoys helping others find inspiration and the perfect supplies for their projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service:
  • Greet customers warmly and provide a friendly and positive shopping experience.
  • Assist customers in locating products, answering questions about yarn types, weights, tools, and craft techniques.
  • Offer personalized recommendations based on customer needs and project ideas.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and minor issues professionally and escalate complex issues to the Store Manager.
  • Demonstrate product features and offer basic craft advice (e.g., how to read a yarn label, basic stitch explanations).
  • Sales & Transactions:
  • Accurately process sales transactions using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
  • Handle cash, credit card, and gift card payments with precision.
  • Explain store policies, promotions, and loyalty programs to customers.
  • Encourage add-on sales and promote featured products or classes.
  • Merchandising & Store Maintenance:
  • Replenish shelves and displays, ensuring products are well-stocked,

neatly arranged, and visually appealing.

  • Assist with receiving and unpacking new merchandise, checking for

accuracy and damage.

  • Organize and maintain the backroom and storage areas.
  • Ensure the sales floor, restrooms, and common areas are clean, tidy, and

inviting.

  • Assist with creating engaging product displays under the direction of the

Store Manager.

  • Class & Event Support:
  • Provide information to customers about upcoming knitting, crochet, and

other craft classes and workshops.

  • Assist with class registrations and help direct customers to the class

area.

  • Help prepare the classroom space before and after sessions, ensuring

materials and tools are ready.

  • General Duties:
  • Adhere to all store policies and procedures, including opening and closing

routines.

  • Maintain product knowledge by staying informed about new arrivals,

trends, and crafting techniques.

  • Collaborate effectively with the Store Manager and other team members.
  • Assist with inventory counts as needed.

Full Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous retail sales or customer service experience, preferably in a specialty

retail environment (e.g., crafts, hobby, boutique, bookstore).

  • Experience with a POS system.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Passion for Yarn & Crafts: A strong interest in and familiarity with knitting,

crochet, and other common crafts (e.g., embroidery, macrame).

  • Basic Knitting & Crochet Skills: Ability to demonstrate basic stitches (e.g., knit,

purl, single crochet, double crochet) and understand basic pattern terminology.

Intermediate skills are a significant advantage.

  • Customer Service Excellence: A friendly, positive, and patient demeanor with a

genuine desire to help customers.

  • Communication Skills: Clear and articulate verbal communication skills to

interact effectively with customers and colleagues.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport with customers and work well

within a team.

  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in handling transactions and merchandising

products.

  • Basic Math Skills: Competency in performing basic calculations for sales

transactions.

  • Reliability & Punctuality: Dependable and able to adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift (up to 10 kg), and reach to stock shelves.
