Currently House of Shipping is looking to identify a Transhipment Supervisor for a leading shipping company.

Job purpose:

The job purpose of a Transhipment Supervisor is to coordinate and oversee the transhipment process of goods or cargo from one mode of transportation to another, ensuring that the transfer is efficient, safe, and compliant with regulations. The main goal of a Transhipment Supervisor is to ensure that the cargo is transferred smoothly between different modes of transportation, minimizing disruptions, and ensuring timely delivery.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities

Coordinating Transhipment Activities

• Responsible for organizing the movement of goods during transhipment, ensuring seamless transfer of cargo between the 1st leg carrier, 2nd leg carrier, and, if needed, the 3rd leg carrier.
• Collaborate with stakeholders such as shipping lines, vessel operators, and ports to plan and execute efficient transhipment operations.
  
  

Documentation and Compliance

• Ensure accurate preparation and compliance of all required documentation, including bills of lading, waybills, customs declarations, and other essential paperwork, adhering to international regulations.
• Oversee transhipment operations, including container loading and unloading, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with customs and security protocols.
• Coordinate with terminal staff, shipping lines, and logistics teams to maintain operational efficiency.
• Address discrepancies in container tracking and documentation promptly.
• Optimize processes to adhere to tight schedules and enhance service levels.
• Cargo Tracking and Monitoring
• Monitor and track the movement of cargo during transhipment using advanced tracking systems and tools.
• Ensure safe handling and transfer of cargo, addressing any delays or issues to avoid disruptions and guarantee timely delivery.
  
  

Communication and Collaboration:

• Maintain effective communication with shipping agents, port authorities, transport companies, and customers.
• Foster collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure efficient and seamless transhipment operations.
• Problem Resolution
• Identify and address disruptions or issues arising during transhipment processes, including documentation errors, port congestion, customs compliance, or transportation delays.
• Implement corrective actions and proactive solutions to minimize operational impact.
  
  

Operational Efficiency:

• Continuously assess and improve the transhipment process to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Analyze operational data, identify bottlenecks, and introduce process improvements.

• Enforce compliance with safety and security protocols during cargo handling and transfer operations.

Education requirements: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as logistics, supply chain management, transportation, or business administration is often preferred. Good computer skills (shipping software, MS Office - Excel).

Language requirements: English – Fluent (required)

Background And Experience

• 5–8 years of experience in transhipment operations is essential. This should include roles such as freight forwarder, operations coordinator, shipping agent, or similar positions where expertise in cargo handling, documentation, and coordination of transfers across various transportation modes was developed.
• Comprehensive knowledge of transportation and logistics operations is critical. This encompasses a strong understanding of different transportation modes (such as sea, air, road, and rail), logistics terminology, freight forwarding, international trade regulations, and documentation requirements.
• In-depth understanding of documentation requirements, including bills of lading, waybills, customs declarations, and other critical paperwork, is mandatory. Familiarity with customs regulations, import/export procedures, and international trade compliance is necessary to ensure seamless and compliant transhipment operations.
