Cotton Trader

We are seeking a dynamic Cotton Trader to join our global trading team. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow within a fast-paced international commodities environment by contributing trading ideas, supporting business operations, and actively participating in the development of cotton-related strategies, research, and execution processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Map the end-to-end cotton supply chain from producers to end-users
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the cotton industry from field to finished product
• Monitor and analyse domestic and international cotton flows
• Support operational, logistical, and marketing activities to meet business targets
• Build and maintain trading databases with historical and market data
• Assist in managing cotton purchase and sales contracts
• Liaise with suppliers, agents, and buyers to coordinate shipments and transactions
• Oversee and manage outstanding sales and purchase contracts
• Support FX (foreign exchange) activities in coordination with the treasury team
• Manage internal trading systems, MIS reporting and data accuracy
• Maintain and enhance balance sheets and contribute to trading strategies for West Africa

Education, Experience and Skills:

• Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or International Trade
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in commodities trading (preferably in cotton or softs)
• Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, excellent communication and negotiation skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure
• Proficiency in MS Excel and trading-related IT systems
• Fluency in French is required
• In-depth knowledge of cotton market dynamics and product fundamentals
• Solid understanding of basis trading, balance sheets, futures and options
• Awareness of both domestic and international commodity exchanges
• Familiarity with commercial terms and contract structures
• Proactive and self-driven attitude with ability to contribute ideas and insights
