Position Overview

Details of the Division and Team:

Sanctions And Other Risks Center Of Competency Role

To be the Center of Competency for key non-financial risks with a focus primarily on Sanctions, Financial Crime risks (e.g. AML, Tax), fraud and other non-financial risk areas, e.g. investor protection, cross border risks. This role ensures sanctions policy and requirements are fully implemented for Dubai’s Advisory location as well as ensures robust governance, advisory, and oversight across relevant risk domains, client services delivered in compliance with global and local regulatory expectations whilst supporting sustainable and compliant growth of the Private Banking business. The candidate will be required to steer appropriate outcomes, partner closely with key internal and external business partners as well as transformation team to ensure effective communication of risk management and tool enhancements / process improvements. Candidates will also ensure alignment with local regulatory requirements and global policies and be involved in the execution of requirement frameworks and processes.

Your key responsibilities:

Risk Framework & Governance

  • Partner with Emerging Markets’ Center of Competency Leads across different key non-financial risks to ensure local and regional frameworks, procedures and controls, are aligned with group and divisional policies across the relevant risk domains.
  • Ensure alignment with DIFC, MAS, HKMA, FATF, OFAC, EU, FINMA and other relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Support ownership and proactive management of risk areas including relevant impact analysis of updated or new Policies and Procedures, including KOD (Key Operating documents) and IGSA (Intra-Group Service Agreements)
  • Support key meetings and governance forums covering relevant risk areas where issues are reported and escalated to stakeholders.
  • Support In preparation of Location Risk Reports and assessment for the PB Dubai and PB KSA
  • RM score card process Implementation and reporting.


Subject Matter Expertise & Advisory

  • Be trusted advisor and provide expert guidance to front office based in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, partnering closely with compliance / 2LoD and Central PB owners as well as support the design and implementation of strategies, change-the-bank projects on tools and platform / process enhancements to ensure continuous improvements, partnering with relevant agile / technology colleagues for delivery for relevant risk areas.


Monitoring & Oversight

  • Undertake 1st LOD controls on various Taxonomies in scope for PB Dubai and PB KSA
  • Monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Control Indicators (KCIs) across all domains, share results with appropriate stakeholders
  • Oversee effectiveness of systems supporting the relevant processes and controls


Training & Culture

  • Support targeted training programs for relationship managers, investment advisors, and onboarding teams.
  • Promote a culture of ethical conduct, transparency, and client-centric risk management.


Regulatory & Audit Engagement

  • Support Head of Risk ME to on matters covering assessments & responses time to time as required, involving regulators / tax authority / auditors on inspections and inquiries.


Your skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in sanctions and well versed with other risk areas, e.g. financial crime compliance, cross border, conduct risk, or operational risk in Private Banking.
  • Has knowledge of DIFC, MAS, FATF standards, FATCA/ AEI tax transparency etc
  • Has knowledge of private banking client profiles and risk typologies
  • Has analytical, problem-solving and investigative skills / mindset, detail-oriented and willing to challenge the status-quo
  • Familiarity with risk management tools, e.g. transaction monitoring, sanctions screening systems etc
  • Strategic risk thinking with strong execution capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management and influence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships with all levels
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a dynamic environment, appreciate diversity and follow through assignments within tight schedule
  • Has process and project management experience.
  • Has client focus and ability to partner with various internal groups
  • Display sense of ownership, responsibility and sense of urgency
  • Drives results through leadership, people, communication and influence
