A Cards Issuing Architect in the banking or fintech sector plays a pivotal role in designing and overseeing the architecture of card issuance platforms, including credit, debit, and prepaid cards. This role requires a blend of technical, domain-specific, and strategic skills. Here are the key skills typically expected:
Domain & Business Knowledge
Banking & Fintech Acumen
- Understanding of digital banking, neobanks, and fintech trends.
- Knowledge of customer onboarding, KYC/AML, and risk scoring.
- Understanding of Frameworks(TOGAF) and working knowledge in Enterprise Architecture.
- Experience in launching and scaling card products.
- Collaboration with product, compliance, and operations teams.
Card Issuing Systems Expertise:
- Deep understanding of card lifecycle management (issuance, activation, renewal, replacement).
- Familiarity with platforms like TSYS, FIS, First Data, or in-house systems.
- Experience with Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, and local schemes.
- Understanding of BIN management, tokenization, and EMV standards.
- RESTful API design for card services.
- Integration with core banking, fraud systems, and digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay).
- PCI-DSS, GDPR, and local regulatory compliance.
- Cryptography, secure key management, and tokenization.
- Designing scalable, resilient systems using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
