Job Purpose

The Tool Shop & GSE Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the tool shop and ground support equipment (GSE) maintenance teams. This role ensures that all tools, equipment, and GSE are maintained, serviced, calibrated and readily available to support operational requirements. The supervisor will manage inventory, coordinate repairs, ensure safety compliance, and lead a team of technicians to maintain high standards of operational readiness and efficiency.

Key Result Responsibilities

GSE Maintenance & Operations:

  • Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance of all ground support equipment.
  • Ensure GSE is operational, safe, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and schedule inspections, repairs, calibration and overhauls.
  • Ensure all calibration activities are performed on schedule and in accordance with applicable standards
  • Ensure tools are properly calibrated, stored, and maintained according to standards.
  • Manage procurement and replenishment of tools and consumables.
  • Coordinate with vendors or internal maintenance teams for major repairs or outsourced services.

Team Supervision

  • Lead, train, and evaluate a team of tool shop and GSE technicians.
  • Assign tasks and monitor performance to meet operational deadlines.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure all staff adhere to safety protocols.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed logs, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, KPIs, and equipment status summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company standards.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as required.

Key Result Responsibilities - Continued

  • Operational Support:
  • Work closely with maintenance, operations, and logistics teams to forecast tool and GSE needs.
  • Assist in budget planning for tooling, GSE maintenance, and consumables.
  • Respond to urgent equipment/tooling issues to minimize downtime.
  • Support planning for special operations, projects, or ramp-up periods.
  • People Management:
  • Provides direction, coaching and guidance to team members for their career and professional development.
  • Creates a conducive working environment to build and sustain a performance driven, engaged, and committed team.
  • Ensures people management responsibilities are handled effectively in line with company procedures.

Qualifications (Academic, Training, Languages)

  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent in mechanical, electrical, or aviation technology preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Proficient understanding of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and tool tracking software.
  • Skills to interpret maintenance data, generate reports, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising between maintenance teams, operations, vendors, and management.
  • Skilled in training and mentoring team members on technical tasks and safety protocols.
  • Awareness of budget management, procurement processes, and vendor relations for tools and equipment.
  • In-depth understanding of tool shop operations, including tool control, calibration, maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Strong familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and reliability practices for GSE and tooling.
  • Knowledge of GCAA regulatory requirements and safety standards relevant to ground support equipment and tool handling.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in tool shop or GSE maintenance, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and tool tracking software.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills to manage, motivate, and develop a team of technicians.
